AI in VS Code and PyCharm: working with code inside the IDE
An AI assistant in an editor is useful when a task concerns the open project: understand an unfamiliar module, find a bug, write a test, or review changes. The AI Free project, developing under the SYNVOX name, has separate VS Code and PyCharm plugins.
Start safely in the editor
Use a project copy or a separate branch before allowing file edits. Connect a provider, check the selected working folder, and begin with a small read-only task: find an entry point, explain module dependencies, or suggest a test. Provider connection and model lists can differ by plugin version; verify the extension name and version in its official listing.
What to allow an assistant to do
Reading code, editing files, and running commands are different access levels. Architecture review normally does not require side-effecting commands. Do not put API keys into chat or make publishing, data deletion, or production database changes an implied part of a task. Review install commands and files AI intends to change.
How plugins differ from desktop
VS Code and PyCharm plugins are published separately; a desktop update does not update them automatically. Native desktop installers are not available yet. Do not replace plugin files with a desktop build. Check the brand, price, and available functions against the terms of the specific release.
An example task for AI
Explain the open project and find its authentication module. Do not change anything or run commands yet. Show the files, their relationships, and what information is needed for review. After my confirmation, propose a separate small task with a clear completion criterion.

Can I use different AI services for one project?
SYNVOX brings multiple providers into one workspace. When switching models, consider supported tools, context size, and feature availability in your plugin version.
Does a SYNVOX subscription remove AI-provider limits?
No. Session, model, and provider limits remain. The stated SYNVOX rate is 99 RUB for 30 days with a 3-day trial; sales are still being prepared.
